In 2000, Dr. Stifelman was recruited to New York University Medical Center to head the Minimally Invasive and Laparoscopic Division of Urology. At NYU he pioneered many new laparoscopic and hand assisted laparoscopic techniques including laparoscopic adrenalectomy, partial nephrectomy, radical nephrectomy and nephroureterectomy.

In 2003 the da Vinci Surgical System was purchased and since then Dr. Stifelman has led the way at NYU in performing robotic prostatectomies and pyeloplasties.

In addition he is the first to report on using robotics to perform complex ureteral reconstructive procedures including robotic ureterocalycostomy, ureteroureterostomy, ureterolysis with omental wrapping, ureteral reimplantation and bladder diverticulectomy.

As of 2007 Dr. Stifelman has performed over 750 laparoscopic and robotic procedures.
